A collection of first gen AirTags.

If you've ever had that heart-stopping moment when you can't find your keys as you're running out the door, Apple just released a little piece of mind. The next generation of AirTag is here, and while it looks the same on the outside, the tech inside got a glow-up for sure.

Finding Lost Things Easier

The biggest change is the new second-generation Ultra Wideband chip. This is the same chip that's in the latest iPhones and Apple Watches. Your lost items can now be tracked from 50 percent farther away than the original AirTag.

If you're an Apple Watch user (Series 9 or newer), you can now use Precision Finding right on your wrist. It gives you precise directions on how to find the location of your keys, wallet, or anything else with the AirTag, much like you're playing "Hot or Cold" for your missing item.

Pump Up the Volume

We've all been there: listening for that tiny "ping" hidden deep inside a couch cushion. Apple redesigned the internals to make this AirTag 50 percent louder. It also uses a new, more distinct chime, so you won't have to shush the whole room just to find your bag. This is an addition to the haptic feedback (the little vibrations) which can also be a great cue for your missing stuff.

Ultimate Travel Companion

The most practical update is the Share Item Location feature. Apple is partnering with over 50 airlines to let you securely share your AirTag's location with customer service. If the airline loses your bag, you can send them a private link so they can see exactly where it is, helping you get your luggage back much faster. This same feature can be used to share an item location with anyone that you trust to help you track it down.
