The theme this week is gadgets that will power up your home, health, and hobbies. We are looking at tech that can enhance your everyday activities by giving them a smart boost!
Caught Drew Kozub on Breakfast Television this morning and want to know more about the tech he was showing off? Good news! You came to the right place!
Whole Home Power Station

First up, a device that will literally pose up your smart home, a portable, battery-powered generator.
The Anker SOLIX F3000 is designed as a fail-safe should your home ever lose power. If that happens this thing holds enough juice to keep power not only your countertop appliances (margaritas don't a blackout anyone?) but even your major appliances. We are talking about batter capacity that can run your fridge for nearly two days!

Beyond emergencies, this can be a handy helper around the house, camper/camp site, or for outdoor parties. Wherever you need power, just roll this handy device to the spot using the build in wheels and suitcase-style handle for a power boost anywhere.
Battery Backup

For an emergency/backup power supply for your home, RV, or even a charge for your electric vehicle, the Anker Solix F3000 can't be beat. It's expandable (you can add more batteries for even longer run times) or add solar panels for a potentially limitless amount of battery life. Aside from emergency situations, this can be so handy to have to power up a patio party or assist with any outdoor activities where you need electricity, but it's just not accessible.

There's a few further scenarios I'd like to test this device out with. My friends are new to the EV world and want to take it on their next road trip just in case their math is off between charging stations.
I play in a band and would love to test out how this powers the PA and some amps when we are outdoors.

My sister has a camper so I'd also be curious to know how long she could function comfortably at a camp site that doesn't have actual power hookups by using this thing.
Those topics and more will be explored in the full review coming later this month!
Smart Telescope

This is hands-down one of the coolest gadgets I've tested in 2025. DWARFLAB has been making smart telescopes for a few years. Their latest model turns amateurs into astronomers thanks to the incredibly easy-to-use smart features.
A "real" telescope requires a lot of knowledge both to setup the device and find cool things to look at. The DWARF 3 eliminates those barriers thanks to the companion app you use to control the telescope.
Within the app you can search for interesting celestial objects that are visible in your area at that time of year and the telescope will auto calibrate to find them. This allows you to capture some truly incredible photos.
As your skills progress, you can start taking off some of the autopilot guardrails to dial in specific features as you learn more about looking at and photographing the night sky.

Not only do you get very satisfying results, it can also be a great excuse to spend time with a friend one evening, chatting about the mysteries of the universe while you're looking at some of 'em through your new telescope.

I hope the pictures speak for themselves, but I cannot emphasize enough how little I know about astronomy and how I have no skills or experience with a telescope. And yet, with the DWARF 3 I was able to get photos of nebulas and galaxies and the moon that look like they're from NASA.
Note: I happened to have a tripod, and this device works best when mounted on one. You can buy one as part of a kit when you order your DWARF 3. The sky is the limit when you order tripods (like $15-$1,5000 depending on many factors). But as a little tip, if the tripod you order allows you to "tilt the head" and shows you how many degrees it's tilted (little numbers on the side of the tripod head) that can be quite helpful if you start to do more "advanced" stuff to calibrate your telescope down the road.

The DWARF 3 is such a fun gadget. If a telescope wasn't already on your birthday list, I hope now it is because this thing is such a delight to experience in person. It's so simple to use and the results are phenomenal!
Apple Watch

Apple Watch continues to be the smartwatch to beat. It's set the bar for keeping you connected not just to your iPhone, but to your smart home and your health and wellness journey.
This fall they introduced three new models for three user types:
- Apple Watch SE: This one is the lowest price point and covers all the key smartwatch features (and then some extras). It's the one for a first-timer, non-tech person who wants basics, or a person who wants a super capable health and fitness companion, but doesn't want to blow their budget.
- Apple Watch Series 11: This is the main, feature-rich one that will appeal to most users. It has all the bells and whistles, a great-sized display, and a sensor-rich array for your fitness and health needs
- Apple Watch Ultra 3: This is for the next-level super user. It's designed for people who love their outdoor adventures from cycling, to diving, to hiking and more. It now has the largest display on an Apple Watch (so you can see more metrics or messages at a glance). It's also a statement piece for those who want the most premium version of a product.

With three new models in 2025, Apple has a smartwatch that will fit your lifestyle and your budget. With incredible health, sleep, fitness, and mindfulness support this gadget can be an indispensible companion for your everyday life. Aside from taking care of you, it can work as a remote control for your TV, a lock for your smart home, and much more.

Not too long ago, we wrote about all the reasons why the Apple Watch Ultra 2 is a great choice, and the Ultra Watch 3 builds on that by adding 5G and Satellite connectivity (meaning if you have NO signal and don't pay for a separate wireless plan for your watch, in an emergency while hiking or whatever you can still send a message or share your location). It also has the newest processing chip for Apple Watches (the S10), which, among other things will support a longer battery life by making the watch work more efficiently.

The Ultra 3 is nice, but certainly no one with the Ultra 2 will have FOMO. But if you've used an SE or Series Apple Watch and were curious about upgrading, the Ultra 3 will have some notable improvements compared to those other models.
For most people though, the Series 11 will cover everything you need and more.
Both the Ultra and Series 11 will work with Apple's newest health innovation, Hypertension monitoring, alerting you if it suspects you have this condition (the SE doesn't have the required sensor).
LEGO Game Boy

LEGO just continues to absolutely crush it at latching on to nostalgia in adults and giving us reasons to open our hearts (and wallets) to buy more LEGO sets.
The latest example will speak to gamers of the 90s with the release of the LEGO Game Boy.

This nearly 1:1 replica allows you to build not only the handheld console, but also the cartridges of two iconic games in the franchise (Super Mario Land has the best Mario soundtrack of all time).

You probably have fond memories of LEGO from childhood. Good news. They grew up with you! While they still have fantastic sets for kids, their line focused on grown-ups brings whimsical delight to the building blocks you know and love. The new Nintendo Game Boy set is just one of many examples of this.
The set also comes with lenticular inserts to create a motion effect to highlight Super Mario Land, Zelda (Link's Awakening), and the Nintendo start-up screen.
With LEGO sets, the budget can range extensively. But with a relatively low piece count (around 400) and a relatively low price ($80 Canadian), this is a great gift idea that will bring an hour of two for fun during the build phase, but non-stop enjoyment as a display item.
