Tech and toddlers can be a tricky subject. We want to minimize screen time and ensure our children are developing their minds and bodies in the most healthy way.
The Canadian Pediatric Society says screen time should be limited to less than one hour a day. However, their findings are that most parents report their children exceed this.
It's important to figure out the boundaries for screen time that are right for your family. For those families who allow it, screen time can be used to develop dexterity skills and support learning.
Geeking Out: Toddler Tech
Drew Kozub's Geeking Out segment airs regularly on Breakfast Television, a national morning show in Canada. Recently, he was joined by host Melanie Ng to discuss toddler-friendly apps.
Minitechno
The first app featured in the segment is Minitechno. It's a collection of five games that support play, development, and learning in toddlers.
You can read our full review here, but for a quick glance, here are some of the reasons this app was included in the TV segment:
- Easy to use
- Transparent privacy policy
- Developed with parents and educators
- Fun and engaging
AirOut!
This "anti-social" app is designed for parents to have a safe place to share their feelings.
Sometimes, you need to vent, and social media isn't always the best place for that. This app, at first glance, looks like a traditional social feed, but with a few important differences:
- It doesn't have usernames
- It doesn't allow users to comment on other posts
- It has a 100-character limit
There are many reasons why we really like this app (which you can read all about here), but long story short, it's a thoughtful solution for parents who want to spare their spouse, friends, or family from their venting.
