If there's one thing I learned from the sweltering heat and high-stakes gaming at IEM Rio 2026, it's that Intel recognizes that there's many different types of gamers between the professionals on stage at their E Sports Tournament to the fans in the stands.

And no matter what type of gamer you are, Intel wants you to have the best gaming experience that fits your needs (and your budget).

With the introduction of the new Core Ultra Series 200 Plus processors, the reveal of the lower cost, everyday use Wildcat Lake processors, plus the power of their versatile Core Ultra Series 3 (and all the cool things Panther Lake can do) the company is making sure there are more options than ever for people to find the right choice for their needs.

While at Intel Extreme Masters Rio, I had the chance to pull aside Corey Pforzheimer (VP of Global Communications) and Brett Hannath (Intel's CMO) to talk about why 2026 is the year the "AI PC" actually starts making sense for regular Canadians.

The Power of the Ecosystem with Corey Pforzheimer

The performance power of Intel's processors was on full display on a global stage as the most elite gamers on the planet pushed the processing power of Intel machines to the limits during the tournament.

For Corey Pforzheimer, Intel's VP of Global Communications there's no better showcase for the company's raw power than an event like this. And Intel's able to develop products at this elite level not just because of their chips, but how everyone else is able to build on top of them because of their ecosystem.

"The ecosystem is truly, truly what sets us apart," Corey explained. "We deliver innovation so that you and others can deliver that same innovation. If you are designing for Intel, you are designing for that next-generation gaming experience."

We also touched on the big "A-word": AI. Corey is convinced that the most impactful breakthrough isn't just "general AI," but the specific ways it's powering compute experiences on our PCs and in data centers.

He called it an "equalizing effect" that allows startups to build billion-dollar businesses practically overnight.

Keeping it Real for Gamers with Brett Hannath

Next, I caught up with Brett Hannath, Intel's Chief Marketing Officer. He was still buzzing from the passion of the Brazilian fans while experiencing his first IEM.

"Photos are one thing," he told me, "but when you're sitting in the arena and you just can't hear a single thing because everyone's going crazy... you have to be here to truly understand."

We got into the nitty-gritty of how Intel introduces new tech to a community as "particular" as gamers. Brett's philosophy? Tread lightly.

"We've seen people who just inject technology for technology's sake and the community goes, 'well, what the...?'" Brett said. "We work incredibly closely with the publishers... we're always sensitive to AI. We make sure the tech makes sense."

He gave a great example: AI frame generation. It makes total sense on a laptop where you're trying to save battery and keep things smooth on the go, but on a massive desktop with all the power in the world? Maybe not as much.

Bringing "Premium" to the People

The most surprising part of Intel's week at IEM was hearing about Wildcat Lake and the Core Ultra Series 200 Plus. In 2026, the focus is shifting toward affordability without sacrificing the "cool stuff."

The Lenovo IdeaPad Pro 5 shows how Intel Core Ultra processors can be great for gamers but also creators.

Here's the breakdown of what's just come out and what's coming soon:

  • Wildcat Lake: Bringing premium features down to affordable designs for casual gamers.
  • iBOT (Intel Binary Optimization Tool): A new feature that makes real-time adjustments to your hardware for extra performance. The best part? It's opt-in, so "Big Brother" isn't watching unless you want the boost.
  • The SoC Revolution: Intel is now packing everything—graphics, Wi-Fi, and even memory—onto a single chip (System on a Chip). This is why we're finally seeing AAA games running on thin-and-light laptops with battery life that actually lasts all day.

Final Thoughts

Talking to Corey and Brett, it's clear that Intel is listening. They've had to correct some strategy"over the last few years, but with the 200 Plus series out and Series 4 on the horizon for 2027, the roadmap looks solid.

Having personally experienced the premium gaming experience that can be delivered in a laptop after reviewing the Asus Zenbook Duo and most recently getting hands on with the Intel-powered Samsung Galaxy Book 6, I know, at least for my style of gaming, that Intel is delivering an incredible experience that balances performance, battery life, and (most importantly) budget options for gamers in 2026.
