Clicks Technology, the company that brought us that viral iPhone keyboard case, has just announced their own standalone smartphone: the Clicks Communicator.
What is the Clicks Communicator?
The Clicks Communicator is a new Android phone designed to work alongside your main device (like your iPhone or Galaxy S25). It's for the person who has two phones, a work phone and a fun phone, and they want each to be great at their specific function.
The company describes it using a great analogy: "Communicator is to a smartphone what a Kindle is to an iPad."
After being one of the first major media covering Clicks when they launched their inital keyboard at the Consumer Electronics Show in Vegas (I do a national TV segment about tech and video games in Canada), the company has been super cool about keeping me in the loop on the most top secret info. In fact I even got to go hands-on with their "touch and feel" unit which is essentially a dummy that is as close to the final look and feel of the real thing as can be.
The Clicks Communicator is a hit list of all the stuff we loved and lost over the years frmo smartphones. Here's what you get with this device:
Headphone Jack: Yes, it has a 3.5mm jack for your wired headphones!
Expandable Storage: It comes with 256GB of storage, but you can add a microSD card up to 2TB (perfect for storing music or photos).
Battery: A 4,000 mAh battery which should last a long time given the smaller screen.
Cameras: A 50MP main camera and a 24MP selfie cam.
Connectivity: It supports 5G, Wi-Fi 6, and has both a physical SIM tray and eSIM support.
Android 16: It runs the latest software with 5 years of security updates promised.
So, even though it's designed as a "companion" phone, the specs are actually quite capable for a daily driver. And for the tech purists out there, it brings back some beloved features that most flagship phones have abandoned!
The Keyboard and Signal Light
Obviously, the star of the show here is the physical keyboard. It features larger, contoured keys for fast typing, but it also has a cool modern trick: the keyboard is touch-sensitive. This means you can scroll through webpages or messages just by swiping over the keys, so your fingers don't block the screen.
Another standout feature is the "Signal" light. This is a customizable light on the side of the phone that lets you color-code your notifications. You can set it to flash a specific color for your partner or your boss, so you know at a glance if a message is worth picking up your phone for.
Pricing and Availability
The Clicks Communicator is available for reservation starting today, January 2nd. It comes in three colours: Smoke, Clover, and Onyx.
The launch price is USD $499, but if you reserve early (before Feb 27), you can get it for USD $399. The phone is expected to start shipping later this year. For a deeper dive, check out the CrackBerry post announcing the new device.
