Sony Interactive Entertainment just pulled back the curtain on its refreshed PS5 audio lineup: the PlayStation Pulse Wireless Headset and the ultra-premium Pulse Edge Wireless Headset.
If you loved the leap in sound clarity when PlayStation introduced the Pulse Elite in 2024, these new models build directly on that foundation. Sony is bringing studio-grade planar magnetic tech to the masses, refining comfort, and introducing high-end features designed to give you a serious edge during heated gaming sessions.
Here is everything you need to know about PlayStation's newest audio gear.

Planar Magnetic Drivers: Why Your Ears Will Thank You
Both new headsets feature custom studio-inspired planar magnetic drivers.
If that sounds like audiophile mumbo-jumbo, think of standard headphone speakers like tiny traditional cones that push air. Planar magnetic drivers, on the other hand, use a super-thin flat membrane suspended across a magnetic field.
The practical takeaway? Incredible sound separation and pinpoint spatial accuracy. In everyday gaming, that means you won't just hear generic gunfire, you'll easily pinpoint the exact floor someone is reloading on or pick out quiet footsteps sneaking up behind you in competitive shooters.
Both models feature larger drivers for fuller, punchier bass, while the flagship Pulse Edge packs double the magnet volume (8 magnets per driver compared to 4 in the standard Pulse) to deliver even deeper low-end rumble without sacrificing high-frequency detail.
PlayStation Link and Dual-Device Audio
Connectivity has always been a pain point when juggling gaming setups, but PlayStation Link returns here with an included USB-C adapter.
- Lossless, Ultra-Low Latency: Zero audio delay between what you see on screen and what hits your ears, preserving full audio detail.
- Seamless Device Hopping: Easily jump between your PS5, PC, Mac, and the PlayStation Portal handheld.
- Simultaneous Bluetooth: You can pair to your PS5 via PlayStation Link while simultaneously connected to your phone via Bluetooth. That means you can take a phone call or stream your favourite podcast without ever pausing your game.
Using the included USB-C adapter (plugged into your PS5) you'll be able to wirelessly connect to your console.
Redesigned for Comfort, Built for Clear Chat
Nothing ruins a gaming marathon quite like pinching earcups. PlayStation updated the form factor on both headsets for lasting comfort and added rotating earcups so they can lay completely flat when resting around your neck or packing into a bag.
For multiplayer comms, both options utilize AI-enhanced noise rejection in their mics to filter out distracting background noises—like frantic button clicks or a loud room fan—so your squad hears only your voice.
The PlayStation Pulse Edge includes a carrying case, the new PlayStation Pulse does not.
PlayStation Pulse vs. Pulse Edge: What Sets Them Apart?
While both headsets share the core audio architecture, the Pulse Edge steps up into premium enthusiast territory:
- Active Noise Cancellation (ANC): The Pulse Edge includes ANC to silence ambient background distractions so you can stay locked into the game world.
- Detachable Boom Mic: While the standard Pulse features an integrated mic, the Pulse Edge gives you a flexible, detachable boom mic for crystal-clear team chat, along with a hidden backup mic when the boom is detached.
- On-Ear Chat Mix: Built-in Game Audio and Chat Balance controls right on the headset for PS5, letting you adjust chat volume on the fly without digging into console menus.
- Travel-Ready: Pulse Edge comes with a dedicated carrying case and includes a standard 3.5mm audio/mic jack for wired setups.
- Colour Choices: Both models will launch in classic White and sleek Midnight Black.
Release Window and Pricing
PlayStation Pulse Wireless Headset will roll out in select markets starting this holiday season, while the flagship Pulse Edge Wireless Headset is slated to launch in early 2027.
Pricing and pre-order dates haven't been shared just yet. With so many great audio options on the market with so many different pricepoints, this is going to be key for the success of PlayStation's newest headsets.
When PlayStation shares further info on the above, we'll be sure to update this article accordingly.
