Samsung is making it easier (and cheaper) to get your hands on some high-tech features. The company just announced the Canadian launch of two new smartphones: the Galaxy A57 5G and the Galaxy A37 5G.
Samsung Galaxy A37 5G
The A37 is a very capable budget-friendly model. You're limited to a single colour choice and have two storage options (for an extra $100 it's probably worth going for the 256GB model)
Samsung Galaxy A57 5G
The slighthly more expensive model has a few nice-to-have-optimizations. If you're doing a bit of gaming on mobile (or would you like to) the experience on the A57 will be a bit snappier than the A37.
If you've had FOMO seeing some of the cool features on the expensive "S" series phones but didn't want to break the bank, these new A-series devices are going to open up a few of those bells and whistles hould you upgrade. They pack in "Awesome Intelligence" (Samsung's clever name for their AI) alongside better cameras and a thin design.
Pro-Level AI for Everyone
The biggest news here is the inclusion of "Awesome Intelligence." Usually, these types of smart features are reserved for the most expensive phones, but Samsung is bringing them to the midrange.
- Circle to Search: You can circle anything on your screen to instantly look it up on Google without leaving the app you're in.
- Photo Magic: Use the Object Eraser to remove that person who walked into the background of your perfect vacation photo.
- Smart Productivity: Features like Voice Transcription in the Voice Recorder app make it easy to turn meetings or lectures into text automatically.
After having most recently used the Object Eraser on the S26 Ultra, I can say that this is one of the premiere features of Samsung devices. So if you're upgrading from an older device wihout this capability you're in for a great treat when it comes to editing out distracted people from sunset shots in Tofino or tourist traffic outside the CN Tower.
Better Cameras for Better Photos
Both phones feature a triple-camera system on the back, led by a 50MP main sensor.
- Clearer Shots: An improved image processor means your photos will look sharper and have less "noise" (that graininess you sometimes see in dark photos).
- Best Face: On the Galaxy A57 5G, this feature helps you pick the best version of everyone in a group photo so no one is caught mid-blink.
- Vibrant Video: Even in challenging light, these phones are designed to keep colors balanced and details crisp.
Built to Last (and Slimmer Too!)
Samsung is leaning into longevity with these models. Both devices are promised up to six generations of Android OS upgrades and six years of security updates. This means your phone won't feel "old" just a couple of years after you buy it.
- Super Thin Design: The Galaxy A57 5G is the slimmest A-series phone yet, coming in at just 6.9mm thick.
- Tough Enough: Both models are rated IP68, which is a fancy way of saying they are very resistant to water and dust.
- All-Day Battery: They both pack a 5,000mAh battery. Plus, with Super Fast Charging 2.0, you can get a 60% charge in about 30 minutes if you're in a rush.
What's the difference? A57 and A37 Smartphones Compared
Key Differences Between the Galaxy A57 and A37
While both phones bring "Awesome Intelligence" to the table, there are some clear hardware distinctions that separate the premium A57 from the more budget-friendly A37.
| Feature | Galaxy A57 5G | Galaxy A37 5G |
|---|---|---|
| Processor | Exynos 1680 (Newer/Faster) | Exynos 1480 (Reliable) |
| Display | 6.7" Super AMOLED Plus | 6.7" Super AMOLED |
| Thickness | 6.9mm (Slimmest A-series) | 7.4mm |
| Weight | 179g (Lighter) | 196g |
| Ultra-Wide Lens | 12MP | 8MP |
| Connectivity | Wi-Fi 6E & Bluetooth 6.0 | Wi-Fi 6 & Bluetooth 5.3 |
| Exclusive AI | Best Face & Auto Trim video | Standard AI Suite |
The Galaxy A57 5G stands out as the power-user choice, offering a significantly slimmer profile and a more efficient Exynos 1680 chip. It also features a larger cooling system (vapor chamber) to handle heavy gaming or intensive AI tasks better than its sibling.
On the other hand, the Galaxy A37 5G focuses on value. While it is slightly thicker and uses the previous generation's processor, it still delivers the core AI experiences like Circle to Search and Object Eraser at a lower price point.
When Can You Get Them?
The Galaxy A37 5G starts at $449.99 CAD and comes in Awesome Charcoal and Awesome Lavender. The Galaxy A57 5G will be available in Awesome Navy. Both phones are available online and through carriers now. You can choose either 128 or 256 GB storage options.

What do you think about Samsung bringing these high-end AI features to their more affordable phones? Are you more interested in the ultra-thin design or the long-term software support? Or is a phone a phone and you just want something that will last as long as possible and cost as little as possible?
