If you've ever wanted to learn an instrument but felt intimidated by the "traditional" way, smart instruments are worth a look.
When choosing a smart instrument, you have to be careful to select one where the skills you put in will actually translate to a real guitar.
Aeroband recently announced a massive software update for their Aeroband Guitar, making it easier than ever to go from "just curious" to actually playing.
The Real Deal, But Smart!
At CES 2026, we got to go hands-on with this instrument. While we didn't get a lot of time with it, one thing I appreciated right away is that it isn't just a high-tech toy.
Some smart guitars are really just glorified tools to trigger backup tracks for singers who don't want to learn an instrument.
Aeroband is different. The skills you learn here — like where to put your fingers and how to transition between chords — actually translate to real guitar-playing skills.
A Smarter Way to Master the Strings
Aeroband's new update introduces real-time visual finger-position guides. Think of it like a GPS for your fingers: it shows you exactly where to press to hit those tricky chords. This builds real muscle memory that you'll use if you ever pick up a standard acoustic guitar.
They've also upgraded their video lessons with better controls. You can now:
- Adjust Playback Speed: Slow down a difficult solo until you've got it perfect.
- Search "Hot Songs": Find trending tracks easily with a more "human" search tool that understands typos.
- Visual Guides: See exactly where your fingers need to be in real time.
Create and Share Instantly
Aeroband is leaning hard into the creator space. They've added a one-press recording feature for audio and video, so you can share your progress on social media immediately. There's even a new** songwriting tool** for creating your own tabs and a smart drum machine that syncs automatically to whatever you're playing.
Whether you're a total beginner or a pro looking for a portable practice tool, these updates make a strong case for keeping a smart instrument in your backpack. This is definitely a gadget we're hoping to test in the year ahead (alongside their pocket drums).
There's never been more competition in the space of smart musical instruments, so hopefully we can spend more time with Aeroband's tech to give you a better sense of whether it's worth investing your time and money in their system.
