Cozy season is officially here, and Amazon is giving bookworms a massive reason to snuggle up under their favourite blanket in their most comfy chair and dig into their favourite books.
Amazon just announced a complete overhaul of its Kindle family, rolling out six new models that are thinner, lighter, and packed with new features. The biggest news of all? For the first time ever, you can finally buy a Kindle with a color display!
Pre-orders are live right now in Canada, so let's break down what's new and whether one of these e-readers deserves a spot on your nightstand.
What's New Across the Entire Kindle Lineup?
Rather than just tweaking a few internal parts, Amazon redesigned these devices from the ground up:
- Flush-Front Displays: Every single new model now features a seamless, edge-to-edge glass front. Gone is the raised plastic bezel around the border, making every device feel thinner and much sleeker in your hands.
- Wrap-Around Colors: The physical colors now wrap smoothly around the entire device from front to back, introducing fresh shades like Ube (a vibrant purple), Alpine Sky, Seaglass Green, and Fig.
- Faster Performance: Faster page turns and quicker responsiveness mean less waiting around and more reading.

The New 6-Inch Kindle: Pocket-Sized Reading
The entry-level Kindle remains the most portable option of the bunch. It's lightweight enough to slip into a jacket pocket or small bag without feeling weighed down.
Up to 6 Weeks of Battery Life: You can easily tackle a multi-week vacation without ever packing a charger. 30% Faster Book Opening: Jumping back into your chapter is snappier than ever.
There are three versions of the new Kindle: * Kindle: 16GB of storage in Ube or Graphite - $179. * Kindle Aluminum: 32GB premium aluminum back in two colours (Apline Sky or Seaglass Green) - $259. * Kindle Kids: Kid-friendly version which comes with 12 months of Amazon Kids+ (free movies, TV shows, books, and more) - $249.
Kindle Paperwhite: Built for Marathon Readers
The Paperwhite has long been the sweet spot in the lineup, and this generation sharpens that edge.
- Waterproof Design: Perfect for reading in the bathtub, by the pool, or in hot tubs without the anxiety of water splashes ruining your tech.
- Warm Light Adjustability: Lets you dial down blue light in the evening so your eyes don't feel strained before bed.
- 12 Weeks of Battery Life: That's nearly three months of daily reading on a single USB-C charge.
There's two new versions available, the Kindle Paperwhite ($299) and the Paperwhite Signature Edition ($349). The fancier one and the bumps up the storage from the base mdoel's 16GB to 32 GB, adds a matte aluminum back, an auto-dimming sensor that adjusts to room lighting, and works with the charging dock. It also has Seglass Green as a finish in addition to Graphite.
Kindle Colorsoft: New Models On The Scene
If you read graphic novels, comics, or illustrated cookbooks, this is the announcement you've been waiting for. The Kindle Colorsoft has a new signature edition and Kids version to go alongside the base model.
- Paper-Like Color: Instead of using a glowing, glossy LCD screen like an iPad (which can blast your eyes with glare), Colorsoft uses custom nitride LED lighting and an advanced display stack. It looks just like printed colored paper.
- Distraction-Free: You get rich book covers and full-color comic panels with zero app alerts, notifications, or glare under direct sunlight.
You have a few different options for Colorsoft Kindles:
- Kindle Colorsoft: The entry-level with 16GB of storage in graphite - $379.
- Colorsoft Signature Edition: Audo-adjusting front light, dock charging, and double-tap page turns (plus aluminum housing) - $429.
- Colorsoft Kids: Child-friendly design, includes 12 months of Amazon Kids+ (free movies, books, and shows) - $399.
Handy New Reading Accessories
Amazon also showed some love to power-readers who like to build the ultimate cozy reading setup:
- Kindle Click ($47.99 CAD): A tiny Bluetooth remote clicker that lets you turn pages without having to touch your Kindle. If you have your hands tucked under a warm blanket in winter or have your Kindle mounted on a treadmill this could be handy. It works with all new Kindles and models from 2024 onward.
- Page-Turn Cover ($109.99 CAD): A magnetic case with built-in physical page-turn buttons for readers who miss the satisfying click of a real button.
Are You Planning to Upgrade?
If you're still clutching an older e-reader with thick plastic bezels, this refreshed lineup offers some compelling upgrades, especially with the arrival of full colour displays and some new colour options. Plus Amazon Kids+ is pretty great overall, so getting it for free if you're buying a one of the Kids editions of the Kindle is a no-brainer.
Which new feature catches your eye the most? Are you tempted by the new Colorsoft, or are you happy sticking with black-and-white reading?
