  • Tim Hortons or Dunkin'? Tim Hortons, staying true to her Canadian roots
  • Favorite Canadian Hike: Panorama Ridge in Garibaldi Park, B.C.

Peloton has officially welcomed its first-ever Canadian instructor, and she's bringing some serious grit to the mat. Recently, we joined a fitness roundtable session with Greta Dopp, a yoga and Pilates expert, who shared her journey from Squamish to New York City with us while explaining how she stays motivated and fueled.

Whether you're a long-time Peloton member or just looking to kickstart your fitness journey, here is what you need to know about Canada's newest fitness star and her top tips for success in your workouts.

From Collingwood to the Global Stage

Greta's path to the Peloton studio wasn't a straight line. Born in Thailand and raised in Collingwood, Ontario, she spent the last five years in Squamish, B.C., before relocating to New York for this massive new role.

She was traditionally trained in an ashram in India and later became fascinated by functional fitness and anatomy, leading her to get certified in Pilates. Greta says she tries to bring a specific Canadian spirit to her classes:

I feel like Canadians have grit. They like to work hard. But they also really care about their neighbors and they really care about community.

What is "Sculpt Flow"?

If you've seen Greta on the Peloton app, you've likely noticed her signature style: Sculpt Flow. These classes feature a hybrid of several disciplines designed to maximize efficiency for busy people.

  • Yoga: Provides presence and philosophy.
  • Pilates: Adds precision and control.
  • Sculpt: Brings "the fire" and empowering energy.

As Greta puts it, growth often requires us to step into spaces that feel "both exciting and scary," and her classes are designed to help you find that edge.

Pro Fitness Tips from Greta Dopp

During our recent chat, Greta dropped some excellent advice on how to get the most out of your movement which could help you in your next workouts:

1. Master the Pacing

Many people think intensity only comes from lifting heavier weights, but Greta argues that tempo is your secret weapon.

  • Slowing down: This removes momentum, forcing your body to recruit deeper stabilizing muscles.
  • Speeding up: In a Sculpt Flow, a faster tempo creates a "flow state" and rhythmic experience that naturally boosts your heart rate.

2. Don't Skip the "Corpse Pose"

When asked which move everyone should master, Greta didn't pick a difficult plank or a balance move. She chose Shavasana. This is the final pose where you lie down and do absolutely nothing. It's essential for letting the body and mind reset.

3. Fuel Like a Pro

Greta keeps her nutrition straightforward and protein-heavy to support her training:

  • Pre-workout: A protein smoothie.
  • Post-workout: Ground beef mixed with peas.
  • Favorite Canadian Hike: Panorama Ridge in Garibaldi Park, B.C.

As a reminder, the Peloton app includes free training and workouts for people with a variety of fitness levels. If you don't own a Peloton Bike, Tread, or Rowing machine, you can still subscribe and do workouts on your smart TV, tablet, or phone using equipment you already own.

As we highlighted in our review of Peloton's newest Bike, the superior Peloton experience comes when you pair the high tech hardware with their excellent class catalog.

However, if you're not quite ready to invest in hardware, it's worth giving the app a one month trial, just to see how it could help you along your fitness journey.
